OSTEOPOROSIS
Osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone density and thus structural deterioration of bone tissue leading to an increased risk of fractures of especially the hip, spine and wrist. The National Institute of Health (NIH) states that ten million Americans suffer from osteoporosis and over 30 million others have bone density low enough to put them at risk for painful and debilitating fractures. Osteoporosis occurs also in men. Persons can be symptom-free for many years, all the while losing bone density. Thus, it is important to be tested for bone density. Healthtech utilizes an instrument employing ultrasound technology and not radiation. It has compared favorably with the standard DEXA radiation examination.
